05/2008 Hospital Roosevelt |
|
The following pictures are from our first trip to the children’s hospital together. My wife has done things like this before but this was my first time doing something dire ctly for people I did not know. It is one thing to give money or raise money for charitable contributions, but this was very different. It made me feel nervous and shy at first.
Hospital Roosevelt is a hospital run by the government as well as volunteers. It is available for people who cannot afford the private hospitals and require treatment. Unfortunately there is a lot of demand and not enough people to help. The children and their families here had many different conditions. Some children were instantly happy, bouncing around, being children, while others had very heavy worries on their minds. Over all seeing and meeting these children inspires a range of emotions from happiness to sadness and deep sympathy.
It may not seem like much, spending a few hours and giving out some toys but it does bring some happiness to a difficult time.
I cant wait to do more and I hope to be less nervous next time.
